Coding versus dyslexia. Guess who won?

Daniel’s fourth grade teacher said, “We need to talk.” Mom had heard this before. Daniel’s teachers had always described him as distracted, so she was ready for anything… “Daniel has been amazing. He’s focused and really excited about his Python project.” Mom stared for a second before tears gave way to joy. Daniel’s teachers had not spoken about him this way before.

Gabriela was just a baby when her parents immigrated to a new country. Gabriela is quiet, friendly, adores anything pink…and loves writing code. Gabriela became a strong Python coder in fifth grade. Her interest in technology lead her to building circuits for microchips and then to designing digital games.

Everyone knows that Adam is scary smart, so smart he’s often bored at school. He wishes that school was more challenging and moved faster. Adam loves his STEM Crafters class. It’s the one place where the daily grind of work is put on hold and he can have fun. Here, sensors, circuits, switch-cases and nested loops of code become play toys for Adam. The deeper Adam dives into a challenging problem, the happier he is.

In STEM Crafters classes, there is always a “next level” waiting to challenge students who are eager, curious and thrive on growth. Just like Adam.

Inventing is child’s play.

Chava is all about art. She loves drama, water-colors, Play-Doh. And robotics. Why not? Chava’s robotics class is a place where her creative energy comes alive. Whether she is outfitting her Thymio robot to impersonate her dog or using code to draw purple spirograph circles for the wall in her bedroom, Chava is a digital kid who brings her love of art to everything she touches.

In STEM Crafters classes, technology becomes one more tool for kids to share their creative vision with the world. Just like Chava.

Our nation’s capacity to innovate and thrive in the growing global economy depends on a future workforce deeply rooted in STEM disciplines.

An early understanding of STEM concepts develops unique cognitive skills, habits of mind, and attitudes that benefit learners throughout their lives.

It is never too early to begin introducing children to STEM concepts; we are all natural-born scientists, explorers and engineers.

STEM concepts are best absorbed following an interactive, multisensory, hands-on curriculum where children experience, apply, and transfer knowledge using relevant, real-world tools, materials and processes.

Provide educators with industry-based, research-backed curriculum, training, and resources, so more time is devoted to inspiring our future leaders.
